Unfolding Forms - film photography
A film photography series that explores the complex interplay between vulnerability, strength, and self-possession
within a confined space. Using a minimal studio setting and a single, stark chair as the sole prop, the
The images focus entirely on my shifting presence. The monochromatic grey backdrop serves to isolate
me, drawing attention to the bold, deliberate wardrobe choices: first the arresting, flowing red
ensemble, and then the more deconstructed, intimate pairing of a pinstriped shirt and minimal
bottoms. This visual contrast between saturated color and muted texture reflects the internal
duality of performance and authenticity. Through a sequence of poses that move from direct and
guarded to relaxed and exposed, the series documents a psychological landscape where my body is
used as a medium to express power, discomfort, and ultimately, a captivating self-awareness.
The series is a study in gestural narrative, utilizing the body's angles, extensions, and contractions to
communicate a story of emotional exploration. The chair itself transitions from a tool for seated
power to an abstract barrier and even a pedestal for extended limbs, highlighting the dynamic
relationship between a person and their environment. The consistent use of grainy texture and
deep, subdued lighting lends the work a timeless, film-like quality, suggesting that these moments
of self-interrogation and quiet confidence are universal and enduring.
