Finding Self
Project type
Photography
A deeply personal photographic journey chronicling my internal conflicts with self-perception, beauty, confidence, and the expression of my identity within my culture and skin. Through a series of evocative self-portraits, I portray the raw and uncomfortable process of confronting deeply ingrained insecurities.
The deliberate use of desaturation across these images is a critical artistic choice. By draining the vibrant colour, I strip away the expected visual distractions, forcing an unflinching focus on the core subject: my vulnerabilities. This varied muted palette is a visual metaphor for the emotional dimming that self-doubt inflicts, highlighting the very aspects – a gaze, a gesture, the texture of my skin – that fuel my anxiety. Yet, this aesthetic tension is what ultimately strengthens the entire project. The photographic act of making visible what I felt compelled to hide transformed the lens into a tool of empowerment. "Overcoming Me" moves from documenting struggle to asserting presence. The resulting collection is not an archive of insecurities but a testament to the transformative power of art to reclaim one's narrative and find resilience in the quiet strength of self-acceptance.
